At Daiglen we want children to experience the power and expressive qualities of music and to find satisfaction and fulfilment in both personal and group activities. Pupils enjoy music throughout their school life here. All pupils have weekly music lessons with the specialist teacher and are given the opportunity to learn instruments including recorder, drums, piano and guitar. Regular performance opportunities are arranged in the school and whole school dramatic and musical productions are performed for parents.
The school choir leads singing in assembly and performs for the public, competing in local competitions as well as singing Carols in the community at Christmas, for the elderly residents of a local nursing home, at St James’ Church and in Queens Road for The Buckhurst Hill Residents Association Fair. The school orchestra leads singing in public performances and music workshops with professional musicians are experienced annually.
The learning of music, whether singing or playing, not only gives pleasure, satisfaction and a sense of achievement, but the discipline required also assists in raising standards of learning generally.
